Applicants need to have good communication skills and enjoy meeting people and be willing to help them feel confident with their dealings with the Tax Office. A service-oriented attitude is also essential. Previous experience is not essential as the course provides all the necessary training in the preparation of tax returns for individuals.
This course is designed for people with limited or no knowledge of tax return preparation. It will begin with the basics and take you through income and deductions of different kinds. At the end of this course, you should be able to confidently prepare simple tax returns.
The courses run by ITP are comprehensive and are designed to train those who wish to work in taxation fields in a busy but enjoyable position. Undertaking this course will require your time and effort at home, as homework assignments and exams are given as part of the instruction. Day, evening and Saturday casual work may be available in the Tax Season, July–October, at selected offices.
Our income tax courses are conducted by professional tax accountants who work year-round on a vast range of taxation issues and will help candidates understand how taxation works in practical situations, incorporating personal experience with theory. The ITP Income Tax Course forms 2 stages. Basic Training (Part A) and Advanced Training (Part B). Basic training must be completed and passed as a pre-requisite to attend the Advanced Course.

What will you learn?
This course is designed to teach individuals how to lodge an income tax return for personal and businesses purposes. A trained consultant will take you through the process step by step with practical as well as theoretical examples. You will be required to complete exercises to perfect your skills.

Will you need prior experience to do the course?
No, you won’t need prior taxation or accounting experience to enroll in Basic Training, but you will need to have an affinity with numbers and a love for finances.
There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification, however there are certain qualification and experience requirements to become a registered tax agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB). Please contact the TPB for further information regarding these requirements.
The course will be challenging and a good grasp of the English language and numeracy skills will be required. If you apply yourself and complete the exercises and workshops, the results will be achievable. You will need to attend most classes and keep up to date with your reading and homework.
It is recommended that you attend all classes, but in the event that you are unable to attend, it will be your responsibility to complete the work and read the information for that class. There will not be any makeup lessons available
When will be course begin?
Classes start in January and run until April depending on the branch and times of classes.
The Advanced Training (Part B) will run directly after the conclusion of basic training (Part A). The hours will be the same as for Part A. The duration of the Advanced Training is approximately 5 – 6 weeks.
How will classes be run?
Courses consist of 3 x 3 hour lessons per week and are run over a ten week period. Some branches offer an extensive 2 week full time course. Study is a combination of tutorials, videos and workshops. Most locations offer morning, afternoon and/or evening times.
What does the course cost?
The course starts at $495 to $995, which includes tuition and access to Sage Handitax or Software Assistant. Upon registration, your closest branch will be in touch with dates, times and pricing.
What are the job opportunities?
For top graduates, there will be opportunities to work with a fully qualified tax consultant to help people with their personal and business income tax. This course is recognized throughout Australia by other tax agents and accountants. ITP The Income Tax Professionals training course is industry recognised but not accredited.
